The Wandering Local began as a project to explore the impact of home on identity through travel and creativity.
Over the years, my home base has changed cities, countries and continents. It all started when I left Mumbai, India, whisked away to the US by parents who claimed they knew better (they did). My travels ever since have confirmed predetermined borders do not define home or humanity. So using words as a medium, I write to connect cultures and create a possibility for common ground.
With a background in journalism and international affairs, I am currently based in NYC. Teaching creative writing to 8-17 year olds, facilitating writing workshops for the Middle East Film and Comic Con and covering the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the UAE are some of the most fulfilling things I have done. I also handled the public and cultural diplomacy initiatives for the Embassy of India when I lived in Washington, D.C.

Startup competitions are an easy golden ticket in the Middle East. Are they worth all the time and resources?
We live in between wars.
Bloodshed is a habit, an addiction.
We know no other way to create history.
Or her story. Our story.
The search for individual identity is an elusive one. Multiplicity might be the answer you're looking for.

My travels, for the most part, have been a result of planned one-way tickets. A privilege from inception, these solo trips have been a great way to learn about new cultures and communities. They are also a singular reminder of our expansive world and reveals the goodness within it.
I hope these stories nudge your curiosity and ask you to seek a world beyond your familiar. If not through travel, then through a bit of query and reflection.
Through my writing published here, I'd like to let you in on some of the wonder I have gathered through my wanderings. You can start with the Origin Street series - an album chronicling my return to Mumbai, the first place I learned to call home.
Happy reading and thanks for stopping by!
